Poor communication equals poor user experience. Through proper content and structure the new website captures the viewers by delivering the information they came looking for in a precise and timely manner. An effective website is designed with the target client in mind.
We created a lengthier home page to provide the viewer ample trust which leads to commitment though them, clicking to discover the website further, or even better, contacting Flynn.
Clarity is key. The navigation is clear, but it must also go somewhere. Flynn’s previous website was bland, it used and reused similar phrases. The new design also features clear navigation that satisfies the users curiosity and concerns.
Flynn Communications is a B2B company, they service other companies. With the target audience outlined we can then surmise the reason they are most likely visiting flynncomms.ca. They’re looking for the services Flynn offers and a reason why they should hire Flynn instead of their competitors. Their previous website did little to create trust, thus this was a focus for the new website.
When I began discussions with Flynn it was mentioned very early on that they worked in line with a very clean focus and values. These values were perfect to feature prominently on the website. It shows character and makes the owners real people.
Another important piece in separating Flynn from their competitors in the imagery I created for the home page. The use of cabling floor plans is unique to Flynn Comms and adds substantial value to their clients, thus it merits a spotlight.
Should a website's merit be determined by the content? Perhaps. That is not the sole focus of the human brain however. Imagine a damaged car, even if it's a Ferrari, is it visually appealing? Similarly, we tend to focus on the outward appearance of a website to determine if we will spend our time on it.
Flynncomms.ca was sorely in need of a ‘face lift.’ Throughout the new design I strove to create a consistent design gentle on the eyes. A few ways I was able to achieve this:
Took inspiration from the branding (logo). What shapes and textures were used? This resulted in the mix of hard and round corners throughout the website. As well as the colors of course.
Consistent use of the typeface chosen.
Carefully chosen visuals. A simple icon I created to feature their main service. A visual depiction I also created to create a spotlight for an important difference, as mentioned before.
Webflow offers immense power to the designer. A completely custom website can be turned into a fully functioning website in a matter of weeks, while also supplying a reliable future without ‘break downs’ open source platforms such as wordpress experience.
The previous site had many HTML layout issues. Glitches distract the viewer and decreases their perceived value and diminishes their trust in the company. Why do products end up at the dollar store? They usually contain a design flaw, and though they may function for a time their value decreases and your perception of the company becomes negative. A poorly developed website does the same while also causing most to give up and leave the site.
Because of the multiple glitches visitors only saw a lack of quality instead of the quality work they performed on a regular basis. It is so important for a website to live up to the standards of your business practices, those online know no better than what they see on the website.
When online it seems that half the websites we visit are not responsive to mobile devices, yet for the average business over 55% of their website traffic comes from mobile devices, chiefly phones. This means that without a responsive website that’s accessible to those on mobile phones it will relinquish over half of its potential clients.
Responsiveness also plays a part in how a website ranks on google. By creating a responsive website for Flynn we helped their website load faster giving the viewer a smooth experience, while making sure google recognizes the quality, ranking it higher.
Flynn Comms previous website had zero responsiveness. The new website was developed in Webflow, they now have a website with reliable accessibility. Webflow also makes the process easy, saving time and money for my client and I.
